The Foreign Language curriculum focuses on written and spoken communication in
the target language. Students are encouraged to generate personal language in a
meaningful way in both oral and written forms. They are exposed to normal
social situations, and given practice in handling themselves in the target
language. They hear, read, and interpret a variety of texts including poetry,
newspaper articles, letters, short stories, and more. The students are given an
opportunity to grow in their awareness of the target culture and the
differences that exist between that culture and their own. Students are able to
begin to read and understand key Bible verses. This will help them to begin to
express their faith in the novice level. In addition, students who study a
foreign language perform better on the verbal section of the SAT.
