An Inside Look into Providence Athletics
Michael Woods, Director of Athletics, CMAA

As the Director of Athletics, I embrace my responsibility to enthusiastically lead and champion education-based interscholastic athletics because the very core values we desire to teach; sportsmanship, fair play, honesty, self respect, perseverance, courage, respect for others, responsibility, leadership, initiative, cooperation and teamwork are essential to the future of our nation. If we are successful in this objective, we will send our student-athletes into the world better equipped to be productive citizens because these positive seeds we choose to sow into their lives daily that will be manifested in the days, months and years ahead.

Ultimately, the final score at the end of every game we play is secondary. Instead, our primary goal is to be prepared to compete so that our best effort will always bring glory to God. We can accomplish this worthy ideal by being competitive, but having perspective; by winning humbly, and losing gracefully; by being respectful to our opponents, their fans and the game officials; and by having a positive attitude that reflects confidently on our student-athletes, our coaches, our teams, our school and our community.

I ask our coaches to encourage our student-athletes to strive for excellence but at the same time to keep athletics in its proper perspective in the life of a student. Although we want to promote strength training, physical conditioning, speed and agility training, and sport skill development, we also want our student-athletes to learn the value of teamwork, integrity, work ethic, and Christian character and to ultimately to see their sport participation and performance as playing the game to honor only God.

Providence offers a wide variety of sports ranging from middle school to high school interscholastic competition and currently includes 14 varsity sports. A significant number of our students play at least one sport each year while many play multiple sports each year throughout their high school career. Our athletic teams have won state, region and area championships and we have had many athletes go on to compete with distinction at the college level.

Providence is a member of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS), the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA), the National Christian School Athletic Association (NCSAA), and the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA).

Michael has a professional affiliation with the Georgia Athletic Directors Association (GADA) and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).
